Fed: Blanchett and Upton optimistic about STC

Oscar winner CATE BLANCHETT'S optimistic about the future .. despite the Sydney Theatre
Company running at a loss.

BLANCHETT and husband ANDREW UPTON will take over as co-artistic directors of the STC in 2008.

The company's confirmed it expects to finish the year with a significant deficit ..

following last year's loss of more than 124 thousand dollars.

BLANCHETT'S told ABC radio no-one gets involved in theatre to make money .. but the
STC's a very broad company with a wide reach.

In the STC's 2007 program .. BLANCHETT will direct DAVID HARROWER'S play Blackbird.

And UPTON'S written Riflemind .. which will be directed by Oscar winner PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN.
