NSW: Police look for mother of baby left on doorstep

SYDNEY, April 19 AAP - A newborn baby girl has been found abandoned on the doorstep
of an apartment block unit in the NSW town of Dubbo.

The infant still had the umbilical cord attached and it's believed she was born just
hours before being discovered by the resident of the unit.

Police are urgently seeking the mother of the child, believing she gave birth in the
central-western town Dubbo on Sunday morning, and are concerned about her welfare.

The resident of the unit in Sturt Circle heard a baby crying about 11am (AEST) on Sunday
and found her wrapped in a green blanket outside the front door.

Doctors believe the child was born between 6am and 9am.

Police took the baby to Dubbo Base Hospital for medical assessment, where she remains
in a stable condition.

Inspector David Minehan from Orana Local Area Command said police want the mother to
come forward so she can receive medical care.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information
can be provided in the strictest of confidence.
